Bullet trains restart in west Japan section after maintenance delay

OSAKA (Kyodo) — Shinkansen bullet train services restarted on a section of track in western Japan on Monday after being suspended for hours due to delays in maintenance work, operator JR West said.

Trains on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line were halted between Hiroshima and Kokura stations early in the morning, affecting travelers on the last day of a three-day weekend in Japan.

Services were resumed at around 11:35 a.m., the company said.

A maintenance vehicle got stuck on the tracks during work that started late Sunday night to replace overhead wires between Asa and Shin-Shimonoseki stations in Yamaguchi Prefecture, it said.
